With more than 200 million active users and 83% of wealthy teens in the United States having an Instagram account, the photo-sharing social network is becoming ever so important for brands.
Without further due, here is a list of this year’s ten best Instagram accounts in no particular order that knocked it out of the park.
#1 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Jamie Oliver
Jamie Oliver is not only a success on TV and in the kitchen but the lovable brit has over 2.3 million loyal followers on Instagram – and counting!
Besides the fact that his photos are some of the best lighted food pictures on Instagram overall, he has managed to share links to some of the recipes in his bio (see below).
For joining the group of people who use this link sharing workaround, for the wide variety of photos that are perfectly lighted and look delicious, as well as for driving follower engagement, his Instagram account gets five stars.
#2 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Intel
Despite having only 29.2k followers, Intel is one of the best Instagram accounts because of excellent product placement and branding. Whether it’s creatively demonstrating technology, the variety of products intel is used for or simply including the logo and brand image in entertaining and neat looking photos, Intel excels and definitely deserve to be in the top ten.
#3 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Bonobos
Bonobos does an excellent job on Instagram by capturing materials and quality beautifully. The photos are also aligned with the Bonobos brand image and show lifestyle snapshots that regular customers can relate to.
#4 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Macy’s
Macy’s does not only share photos frequently but took Instagram to the next level by making it shoppable (see description in the screenshot above). Additionally, the department store shares regular Instagram campaigns such as the Black Friday Spotlight Campaign (see screenshot below).
#5 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Sharpie
Sharpie shares sharpie art – it’s simple and genius. Brand lovers and sharpie users alike can submit anything they painted with sharpies which ranges from paper and stones, to cups, iPhone covers and clothes just to name a few. Even though some art pieces are more inspirational than others, Sharpie gets points for originality, creativity and insanely high follower engagement.
#6 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Target Style
Target has several Instagram accounts, one per merchandise category. Target Style makes the top ten hands down for its catalogue feel. Not only does it seem to be an online catalogue for Targets home, fashion and beauty items but they have made their Instagram feed shoppable which adds a practical dimension to an otherwise like or don’t-like interaction style platform.
#7 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Nike
While Adidas Originals was one of last year’s favorite accounts, Nike wins this year without a doubt. Instead of posting product pictures with white backgrounds, Nike shares pictures of customers using their products. Naturally, most photos are about running which is what Nike mainly stands for but some of the photos really take things to the limit by running underwater or uphill a snowy mountain. Nicely done!
#8 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift not only has one of the most followed Instagram accounts two years in a row but doubled her followers within the last 10 months. The 24-year-old queen of high-waist shorts and country/pop music uses all options Instagram has to offer regarding filters and layouts. Additionally, we feel that she deserves a spot among the top 10 for being classy about her fame (in the light of Miley Cyrus and other starlets that show more skin than most of us want to see, this is rare – sadly enough – and deserves some appreciation).
#9 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Humans Of New York
Humans of New York, also known as HONY, was first launched as a blog. It recently became a bestselling book in 2013 and has also gained popularity on Instagram. HONY is included in the top 10 best Instagram accounts for the achievement of taking the combination of photo and text to a photo-based platform so successfully as well as for making Instagram personal and providing interesting content that is neither a product photo nor a selfie.
#10 Best Instagram Accounts of 2014: Red Bull
Besides its constantly changing Facebook page headers, Red Bull also impresses with choosing photos for Instagram that are perfectly aligned with the brand. You will rarely see anyone in a photo touching the ground and Red Bull is also one of the few corporate pages that use a wide variety of filters Instagram provides.
